Taharra's Story - What A Day!

Let me tell you about yesterday.

Usually, when I get off work every other Friday, my partner and I start our weekend together. I was so excited to grab dinner on the way home, which was pizza and wings. I requested my Lyft to pick me up from work, take me to the pizzeria, and then drop me off at my apartment. My partner was already waiting there.

My Lyft came and took me to the pizzeria. I told the driver I would be right back. He said okay. I went in to pick up my order. When I came back outside, he was GONE. I immediately started to panic because all of my belongings (phone, work laptop, etc.) were in his truck, and I had nothing on me except my wallet. Luckily, a kind stranger let me use his phone to contact my partner. Without any hesitation, my partner was on her way to come get me in a Lyft.

When she arrived, I got inside the car, and I was in tears, panicking. She told me not to worry and that we were going to get my things. On the way to my apartment, I contacted Lyft through email on her phone. We got inside the apartment and continued to contact Lyft through email. Somebody called us back, but they were not being helpful at all. Through all the frustration, crying, and panicking, my partner continued to comfort me and tell me that everything was going to be fine.

I was panicking about how I would need to buy a new phone, tell my boss about my work laptop, and more. What I did not know was that my partner had been tracking my phone for about an hour after everything happened to make sure my phone was in the same location. Lo and behold, my phone had not moved from the same location for an hour or so. My partner told me to get my stuff on and that we were going on an adventure to get my belongings.

She had a Lyft take us to the location where my phone and belongings were. We got to the location, and she called the police, telling them what happened with Lyft and that we were at the location where my phone was tracked. We walked up and down the street waiting for the police to come so we could stay warm. The police arrived, and we explained the situation. The nice police officer had us wait in his car since it was cold and snowing outside. We went back to the location, and the police officer knocked on the door to talk to the owner about my phone being traced to the location.

My partner and I watched all of this from the police car. The owner came outside, and they went into the garage. I then saw the police officer pull two bags out of the truck. As they were approaching the car, my heart jumped with glee because I recognized my bags. The officer opened the door and asked if those were my bags. I happily and excitedly replied with a strong yes!

The police officer told us the owner wanted to apologize. The owner, who was my Lyft driver, profusely apologized over and over. He explained that when he took me to the pizzeria earlier, he got confused about my stops. He mistakenly pressed the wrong button that ended my ride and didn’t realize my belongings were on the floor in the back of the truck.

After everything was cleared up and we retrieved my belongings, we all went on our way. On the way back home, my partner kept telling me that she knew everything was going to work out. With her by my side, I know things will be just fine.

Yesterday was definitely something else. I’m glad everything worked out! I am very grateful for my partner and how she helped me. I will never forget this day.
