Tricia's Story - Gratitude Adventurer
Hi, my name is Tricia,
I'm here to share my story of going through hell in the last couple of years of domestic violence, being totally controlled, put down, and physically assaulted. I loved this man with all my heart and felt like I could change him, turn him around. But now, I realize what it was like for me, and that was the hardest to deal with because I didn't know how to handle it.
When I wasn't allowed to speak, I used to write in my notebook a lot, which really helped me vent it all out. At first, I didn't realize the significance, but later on, when I went back and read what I had written, I started to understand. It became my savior. I began to see his patterns, the things he said, and how he responded to them. Later on, this worked to my advantage.
Once I escaped this toxic relationship, I realized I had to do it for my own sake, even though I still loved him. But I knew it was never going to work out, and staying would only lead to more harm.
Afterward, one thing after another went wrong. I had friends who took advantage of my kindness and weaknesses. I had things stolen from me numerous times, lost vehicles, and even money that I never got back. I knew I had to cut ties with all the toxic people in my life to stop this cycle.
I ended up living in a caravan on a friend's front lawn, feeling vulnerable and isolated. I started to feel overwhelmed, constantly stressed and lost a lot of weight from the anxiety. So, I started coloring and writing everything down in notebooks. It helped me stay organized and provided an outlet for my thoughts and emotions.
Even though I felt totally isolated with no one there for me, I found solace in talking to counselors, coloring, writing in my journals, and practicing gratitude every day. Slowly, I became happier, less stressed, and started to enjoy my own company.
Now, after three years of hell, I'm getting back on my feet. I'm studying at TAFE, looking for work, and have found a place to live where no one knows where I am. I continue to talk to counselors, write daily in my journal, and think more positively, which I believe attracts positivity into my life.
I've learned to set goals, make plans for the future, and pursue my dreams. I'm even considering starting my own business and focusing on my passions. I have job interviews lined up, and I know it's only a matter of time before I land a job.
So, to anyone out there wondering if writing in a journal helps, it really does. It's a safe space to vent and reflect, and looking back, you'll be amazed at how far you've come. Remember, you're the most important person in your life, so don't let anyone dim your light. Keep smiling, and don't let the negativity of others bring you down. Escape the toxic people in your life, focus on what makes you happy, and watch your life change for the better.
