Winnie's Story - There is always something to be grateful for
In the year 2021, I was panicking, feeling devastated, scared, and hopeless.
This was because I was turning 31 and my life wasn't quite panning out how I had envisioned it.
I did not have a husband or children. The doctor diagnosed me with ovarian cysts.
My family life was crumbling and since my dad walked out I was the breadwinner.
My mother was sick and involved in an accident.
I just felt like I was not serving any purpose on earth and I gave up on myself.
On WhatsApp, a friend would always share affirmations from the Gratitude app.
I remember feeling resentful and thinking to myself, "Why is she always giving thanks? Doesn't she have any problems?"
I reached out to her and she introduced the concept to me.
Then, I downloaded the app on August 10th, 2021.
And for the first few months, I struggled.
I just didn't know what to write and frankly, I didn't feel like there was anything to be grateful for anyway.
So I began relying heavily on the prompts. I realized there was so much to appreciate about life.
And within no time I was not relying on the prompts. I had so much to be grateful for.
I was so intrigued that I didn't remember my worries on some days.
I started to realize that I had purpose and meaning besides all that I didn't have.
Now I find something to be grateful for each day.
My mantra now is there is always something to be grateful for.
My attitude is brand new. Thank you to the creators of this app!
