Shruthi's Story - Sailing through tough times with Gratitude

Life may bring storms, but gratitude gives you the strength to sail through them.

My life was going fine until one day I was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy, a rare kidney disease that progresses and has no cure. My life felt shattered like glass into a million pieces.

Thinking about my husband and my six-year-old daughter, I could not process the reality for a while. But as days passed and I started medications, I realized that this was how my life was going to be. I stopped crying, blaming, and victimizing myself. I became more spiritual and began thinking about how I could make my life smoother and overcome this challenge. I learned everything I could from my doctors and read more about the disease. I was relieved to know that it is not always fatal, although risks are always there in life.

I had only two options: dialysis or transplant. I chose the latter and started working toward it.

Through this journey, I realized that my family and friends were a strong support system. I could never thank them enough, and my heart was filled with deep gratitude for them.

Then I began to notice gratitude for the little things in my life too, like the air I breathe, the clean water I drink, my friends, celebrations, and so much more. One day I thought I should write down these feelings of gratitude, and I searched for a place to do that. I was so happy to find the Gratitude app, which gave me the space to express my gratitude and thankfulness.

I learned that life may give you many ups and downs, but a good heart and mind can change the way you experience the journey. One can sail through tough times with grace by keeping gratitude in their heart.
